Interactive Bureau to do-it!

14 May 2003

do-it.org, part of Youth Net and holders of the UK's largest database of volunteer opportunities has appointed Interactive Bureau to review and redesign its Web site.

www.do-it.org.uk (do-it) hosts the National Volunteering Database - where tens of thousands of volunteering opportunities are input by agencies around the country. It's a consumer site, aimed at people who are thinking about volunteering. It also provides information, news and feature articles about volunteering. Do-it approached Interactive Bureau because it was interested in the WASP (Web Audit Service Programme) - a systematic and logical process to review the existing site and its evolving needs before properly planning the way-forward and redesigning the Web site.

The do-it site had been redesigned within the last year, but they were not happy with the presentation, content, functionality and difficult management process. An overhaul of the central database was nearing completion and they wanted to better represent the organisation and its offering on the Web.

After discussing do-its business and understanding the planned and desired developments Interactive Bureau conducted a full audit of the current provision. This included an analysis of their log files to determine the popular areas and little-visited parts of the site as well as a comprehensive best-practice review of other organisations' sites with a similar information search requirement.

Interactive Bureau's findings informed the design, structure and navigational logic for the new Web site. In addition to the design work for the public site and an administration area, Interactive Bureau also produced and delivered code-compliant HTML templates which the do-it team is implementing to a new content management system. The new site is planned to launch by the end of 2003.
