FARM-Africa launches new Web site

09 Jun 2004

Interactive Bureau has launched the new Web site for FARM-Africa, a charity which works with poor rural African farmers and herders.

Interactive Bureau was appointed to audit the existing site and make recommendations for a more intuitive structure, for easier updating of the site, for better accessibility and a new look and feel. Interactive Bureau’s response rationalised the existing content areas, revised the navigational structure and prepared designs for a cleaner user interface. The main change was the introduction of a site-wide bespoke content management system, tailored to the exact needs of FARM-Africa. The intention is to allow the project staff in Africa and the UK to update the site so that all content, and especially progress on all the programmes running throughout Africa, is kept as current as possible. The new site also enables an easier and more accessible flow of information and documentation to the project staff out in Africa.

The new site is now much more interactive and responsive to the needs of FARM-Africa and the audiences it serves. With the introduction of the content management system, information can now be cross-related throughout the site prompting visitors to look at information which they may previously have missed. Pages have been kept as light as possible to enable users with slow internet connections to access the site easily.

The new design makes much more use of the extensive photographic collection maintained by FARM-Africa and has a more contemporary feel. David Curless, Design Director at Interactive Bureau, remarked,

"FARM-Africa is one of those rare clients who actually has an extensive archive of quality photographs of its work, using them has brought the site to life and portrays the organisation through the benefits it delivers."

Laura Greenwood, Communications Manager at FARM-Africa comments –

"Interactive Bureau's flexible design approach coupled with their technical expertise has helped transfer creative ideas into reality. We now have a brilliant Web site, enabling more people to see our work and hopefully increase African-based traffic."
