Fourth Annual Report into the UK's Top 100 Companies' Corporate Web sites

03 Mar 2005

Continued improvement – the fourth annual report into the UK's Top 100 Companies' websites from Porter Research.

This report is recognised as a valuable benchmarking tool for all of the UK's top companies. It contains annotated critiques of the top five and bottom five Home Pages and shorter critical reviews of the other ninety. It breaks down the ratings by industry sector and gives full details of the scoring in all categories. It also gives a general overview of the state of Web site design among our top companies, along with a full explanation of the criteria by which they were judged.

The benefit of this report is that it can now draw on four years' worth of data and thereby identify those companies which have consistently under-performed, and those that have consistently improved, regarding their corporate web sites.

A number of positive trends have come out of the report this year:

  • Nearly 60% of companies now achieve a "good" or "very good" rating compared to only 35% last year
  • All, except one company, have achieved a minimum score of 40%, which means for the first time we can conclude that the majority of sites are of a reasonable standard
  • 3 companies retained their top 5 ranking from last year
  • The highest climber has gone from 93rd position last year to 6th place this year
  • Over three quarters of the companies surveyed have re-designed their web site in the last 2 years

This report is published this year by Precedent Communications with whom Interactive Bureau recently merged.
